Process: Unnamed character for new book
I had put these on twitter at one point but wanted to show all three steps together. I feel like it lost something going to inks and I struggled to keep the energy of the eyes and the face of the original drawing. But I think in the pencils, you can maybe see some of the Toth influence.
The Twitter Comic
Felt like throwing this up here on my site, to keep it archived.
I penciled and inked a page a day, and I went back and fixed the first page a little on day 2 because I felt I really started to nail the look of the cats by the time I got to the 2nd page. The ‘shitting’ panel was the fastest to execute. The art style was inspired by Art Spiegelman’s ‘Maus’. The lettering was done by the always amazing Nate Piekos of blambot.com, who created the font used in the strip, as well as many others available on his web site.
Does anyone have any New Year’s Resolutions for 2014?
One of mine is to write more, so I have created a Wordpress blog:
If you have any interesting New Year’s Resolutions I would love to hear them, either here or on the new blog.
I am hoping having the blog will encourage me to write about things that interest me, other than Sherlock Holmes which is all I seem to talk about on here these days.
So, does anyone have any inspiring New Year’s Resolutions that they would like to share?
Another exclusive behind-the-scenes picture from the set of Sherlock: The Sign of Three.

Amazing new Sherlock season three trailer.
“I think I’ll surprise John. Pop into Baker Street. Who knows…jump out of a cake.”
“Baker Street? He’s isn’t there anymore. It’s been two years, he’s got on with his life.”
“What life? I’ve been away.”
Sherlock season three air dates:
1) The Empty Hearse - Wednesday, 1st January 2014
2) The Sign of Three - Sunday, 5th January 2014
3) His Last Vow - Sunday, 12th January 2014
It has now been confirmed by both Sherlockology and Mark Gatiss that the first episode of season three of BBC’s Sherlock will air on January 1st 2014. This is a departure from the usual Sherlock schedule which saw episodes air on a Sunday.
The air date was announced in rather a dramatic fashion by ’Sherlock 01 01 14’ being spelt out in flowers in the back of an empty hearse, as shown in the Sherlockology tweet:
Mark Gatiss confirmed the news saying:
The method of advertising the airing date is very apt since the first episode of the new series will be called ‘The Empty Hearse’:
